# Blush Seahorse Baby Blanket Free Crochet Pattern
The nursery deserved something magical, so I gave it seahorses. A soft blush pink baby blanket with sweet seahorse appliqués swimming across it and a scalloped shell edge — it’s the kind of blanket that gets handed down. The blanket itself is simple half double crochet (fast and squishy), and the seahorses are quick appliqués you add at the end.
This was my gift for a friend’s ocean-themed nursery, and she hung it over the crib rail as decoration before the baby even arrived. I understood completely.

Blush pink with cream seahorses — soft, dreamy, and perfect for a little one. I used baby-soft acrylic because it has to survive a hundred washes.
What You’ll Need
- Worsted-weight baby-soft acrylic yarn in blush pink (approx. 900 yards) and cream (approx. 100 yards)
- Size H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
Finished size: Approximately 32 × 36 inches.

The Pattern
Blanket Body
With blush pink, Ch 101.
Row 1: HDC in the 3rd chain from the hook and in each chain across, Ch 2, turn. (99 HDC)
Rows 2–54: HDC in each stitch across, Ch 2, turn. (99 HDC)
Work until the blanket measures about 34 inches. Do not fasten off — continue to the edging.
Scalloped shell edge: *Skip 2 stitches, work 5 DC in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, slip stitch in the next stitch,* repeat around all four sides, working (slip stitch, Ch 1, slip stitch) in each corner to turn. Join and fasten off.
Seahorses (make 6–8)
With cream, Ch 12.
Row 1: SC in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across, Ch 1, turn. (11 SC)
Row 2: SC in the next 4, *Ch 3, slip stitch in the next stitch* (fin spike) 3 times, SC in the remaining stitches, Ch 1, turn.
Row 3 (head and snout): SC in the next 3, Ch 4, SC in the 2nd chain from the hook and in the next 2 chains (snout), SC in the next stitch of the body, slip stitch down the side to shape the neck. Fasten off with a tail.
Curl the body slightly as you sew — a gentle C-curve makes it read instantly as a seahorse. Embroider a tiny eye with pink yarn.
Sew the seahorses scattered across the blanket, all “swimming” the same direction. Weave in all ends.
Sophie’s Tips
- All seahorses swimming the same way looks intentional and charming; mixed directions look accidental.
- The shell edge eats yarn — keep 100 yards in reserve for it.
- Block lightly before adding the seahorses so the blanket lies flat for placement.
Swimming in sweetness — this blanket is nursery magic!
