Lavender hexagon throw

# Lavender Dreams Hexagon Throw Free Crochet Pattern

There’s a reason hexagon blankets are a classic — those six-sided motifs fit together like a dream and the color possibilities are endless. This lavender version is my couch’s best friend: soft purples fading from deep plum to pale lilac, all joined with cream for a fresh, modern look. I keep it draped over my reading chair and reach for it every single evening.

Each hexagon is quick and addictive (just one more!), and joining is the relaxing part. Put on a good series and settle in — this is crochet at its most meditative.

Hexagon throw folded

I used five lavender shades from my stash plus cream for joining. The gradient effect happens naturally if you arrange dark to light — no planning needed beyond that.

What You’ll Need

  • Worsted-weight acrylic yarn in 5 lavender/purple shades (approx. 200 yards each) and cream (approx. 400 yards)
  • Size H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle

Finished size:

  • Approximately 48 × 60 inches. (Each hexagon measures about 6 inches across.)

The Pattern

Hexagon Motif (make 48)

With any lavender shade, make a magic ring.

Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as DC), work 2 DC into the ring, Ch 2, *work 3 DC into the ring, Ch 2,* repeat 5 times, join. (6 clusters, 6 Ch-2 corners)

Round 2: Slip stitch to the first corner. Ch 3, (2 DC, Ch 2, 3 DC) in the corner, *Ch 1, (3 DC, Ch 2, 3 DC) in the next corner,* repeat around, Ch 1, join.

Round 3: Slip stitch to the first corner. Ch 3, (2 DC, Ch 2, 3 DC) in the corner, *Ch 1, 3 DC in the next Ch-1 space, Ch 1, (3 DC, Ch 2, 3 DC) in the next corner,* repeat around, Ch 1, join. Fasten off.

Each hexagon should measure about 6 inches point to point.

Joining

Arrange the hexagons in 6 columns × 8 rows, blending the lavender shades from deep to light diagonally for a dreamy ombre. With cream and a tapestry needle, whipstitch the hexagons together through the back loops. (Or join-as-you-go with slip stitches if you prefer — just keep the cream consistent.)

Border

Join cream at any corner.

Round 1: Ch 1, SC evenly around the entire throw, working 3 SC in each outer corner point and SC2tog at each inner valley. Join. (Stitch count will vary — just keep it even.)

Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as DC), DC in each stitch around, working 3 DC in each outer corner, join.

Round 3: Ch 1, SC in each stitch around, join. Fasten off.

Weave in all ends.

Sophie’s Tips

  • Make all 48 hexagons before joining a single one — the color arranging is half the fun.
  • Photograph your layout before you start joining; hexagons all look alike after the tenth one.
  • The cream border is what pulls the whole ombre together — don’t be tempted to skip it.

One more hexagon… then just one more. You know how it goes!
