# Ocean Blue Hydrangea Crochet Dress Free Crochet Pattern
Hydrangeas you can wear. This ocean blue dress is scattered with hydrangea flower motifs — little clusters of petals that look like the real thing. It’s romantic, it’s feminine, and it’s the dress I reach for when I want to feel like a garden in motion. The motifs are worked separately and sewn on, so the dress itself is simple and the flowers are the fun part.
A simple A-line dress in ocean blue, with hydrangea clusters scattered over the skirt. Make as many or as few flowers as you like — it’s your garden.

Ocean blue with lighter blue and white hydrangeas — like a hydrangea bush in full bloom. Soft cotton with beautiful drape.

Hydrangea Motifs (make 12–15)
Each hydrangea is a cluster of 5 tiny flowers. For each tiny flower:
With light blue (or white), make a magic ring.
Round 1: Ch 1, 8 SC into the ring, join.
Round 2: *Ch 2, work 2 DC in the same stitch, Ch 2, slip stitch in the next stitch,* repeat around for 4 petals. Fasten off.
Sew 5 tiny flowers together in a cluster. Make 12–15 clusters, mixing light blue and white.
Sew the hydrangea clusters scattered over the skirt — denser near the hem, sparser near the waist. Work 1 round of ocean blue SC around each armhole and the neck. Weave in all ends.
Sophie’s Tips
- Cluster the hydrangeas like real blooms — groups of 5 tiny flowers read as one hydrangea head.
- Sew through the flower centers only, so the petals lift naturally.
- A gradient of clusters (dense at hem, sparse at waist) looks the most natural.
Bloom beautifully — this dress is a garden party!
