# Pumpkin Messy Bun Beanie Crochet Pattern

Pumpkin spice season is officially here, and I have the cutest way to celebrate it! This pumpkin messy bun beanie combines two of my favorite things: the cozy functionality of a messy bun hat and the pure joy of pumpkin everything. The ridged body gives it that classic pumpkin look, the curly green vine on top is just too sweet, and your messy bun or ponytail pokes right through the top as the pumpkin’s “stem.” Genius, right?
It comes in both kids’ and adult sizes, so you can make matching ones for the whole pumpkin patch crew.
Materials
- Size H-8 / 5.0 mm crochet hook
- 1 skein of Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Terracotta (about 130 yds needed for the kids’ hat; about 180 yds for the adult hat), or another medium weight yarn in your favorite pumpkin shade

Vine (same for kids’ and adult sizes)
With Kelly Green, ch 21.
Row 1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (40 sc)
Row 2: 2 sc in each st across. (80 sc)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. (All those increases make it curl up into the sweetest little vine all on its own!)
Finishing
Attach the vine to the top of the hat and weave in all ends. Pull your bun or ponytail through the top opening, and you’re ready for apple picking!
Sophie’s Tips
- The front post triple crochets are what create those pumpkin ridges — don’t skip them, they’re the whole look!
- This is a great one-skein-ish project; the kids’ size uses only about 130 yards of the main color.
- Make the vine in a slightly darker or lighter green for extra contrast.
Happy hooking — go enjoy every pumpkin-spiced moment of fall!
