# Earthy Terracotta Boho Granny Blanket Free Crochet Pattern
Some blankets are just blankets, and some blankets make a whole room feel like a hug. This is the second kind. Eighty granny squares in terracotta, rust, mustard, cream, and sage, joined up and finished with a simple border — it looks like autumn decided to become furniture, and I am completely here for it.
Granny squares are the perfect slow project: one square is a coffee-break make, the joining is wonderfully meditative, and the color combos keep it interesting all the way to square eighty. Make it exactly as written, or shuffle the color order for your own boho mix — there is no wrong answer here.

The Pattern
Granny Square (Make 80)
Each square is 5 rounds. Ch 3 at the start of a round counts as a double crochet. Change colors on the last yarn-over of the round.
Rnd 1: With your center color, make a magic ring. Ch 3, 2 dc into the ring, ch 2, (3 dc into the ring, ch 2) 3 times. Join with sl st to the top of the beginning ch-3. Pull the ring closed. (4 clusters of 3 dc)
Rnd 2: Join the next color with a sl st in any ch-2 corner space. Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same space (corner made), *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next ch-2 space* — repeat from * 2 more times. Join. (4 corners, 4 side spaces)
Rnd 3: Join the next color with a sl st in any ch-2 corner space. Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same space, *3 dc in the next side space, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next corner space* — repeat from * around. Join.
Rnd 4: Join the next color in any corner space. Work as Rnd 3, placing 3 dc in each side space and (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in each corner space. Join.
Rnd 5: Join cream in any corner space. Work as Rnd 4. Join. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Each square should measure 6 inches across. Block lightly if your squares are curling.
Color Combos (20 squares each)
- Combo A: terracotta center, rust, mustard, cream, cream edge
- Combo B: rust center, terracotta, sage, cream, cream edge
- Combo C: mustard center, cream, terracotta, rust, cream edge
- Combo D: sage center, mustard, rust, terracotta, cream edge
The cream final round on every square gives the blanket its cohesive, pulled-together look.
Joining
Lay out the squares in 8 columns and 10 rows, alternating the combos so no two identical squares touch — a checkerboard of A/B/C/D works beautifully.
With cream yarn and a tapestry needle, whipstitch the squares together through the back loops only, working row by row. (Or join with slip stitches if you prefer a flatter seam — just keep it consistent.)
Border
Join cream with a sl st in any corner of the blanket.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc evenly around the entire blanket, working 3 sc in each corner stitch. Join.
Rnd 2 (terracotta): Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each st around, working (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner st. Join.
Rnd 3 (terracotta): Ch 1, sc in first st, [sk 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, sk 2 sts, sc in next st] around, working (sc, ch 2, sc) in each corner ch-2 space to turn the corner smoothly. Join. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Sophie’s Tips
- Weave in the ends of each square as you finish it. Eighty squares times five color changes is a mountain of ends — do not save them for the end unless you enjoy suffering.
- Join as you go if you hate seaming: work the final cream round of each new square with slip stitches into the neighboring squares instead of whipstitching later.
- This blanket is a fantastic stash-buster — as long as your yarns are all worsted weight, the exact shades do not need to match a brand.
Cozy up, friend — this one is worth every square!
