# Mint Green Bunny Jacket with Pompom Free Crochet Pattern
A mint green bunny jacket with a fluffy pompom tail — I mean, come on. This is the jacket that turns a chilly-day walk into an event. It’s a cozy little hooded jacket for toddlers, worked top-down in soft mint with the sweetest bunny details: ears on the hood, a big pompom tail at the back, and two tiny pompoms dancing on the hood drawstrings.
Because it’s worked top-down in rows, there are no side seams and the button band is built right in as you go. The raglan shaping is just increase rows every other row — easy to memorize, easy to adjust. And those pompoms? They take five minutes and deliver about ninety percent of the cuteness.

What You’ll Need
- Worsted weight (#4) yarn:
- Mint green — approximately 400 yards
- White — approximately 60 yards
- US H-8 / 5.0 mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- 4 removable stitch markers
- Three 3/4-inch buttons
- Pompom maker or a piece of cardboard
Finished size:
- 18 to 24 months — approximately 21 inches chest circumference and 15 inches long
- Gauge: 14 single crochet x 16 rows = 4 inches
The Pattern
All stitches use US crochet terms. The jacket is worked top-down in rows (not rounds) so the front stays open. Turn at the end of every row.

Raglan Yoke
With mint, chain 62.
Row 1: Single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. Turn. (61 sc)
Place markers after stitches 11, 22, 40, and 51. This divides the row into: front 11, sleeve 11, back 18, sleeve 11, front 11.
Row 2 (increase row): Chain 1, *single crochet to 1 stitch before the marker, increase, single crochet in the marked stitch, increase; repeat from * 3 more times, single crochet to the end. Turn. (69 sc)
Row 3: Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch across. Turn. (69 sc)
Rows 4 to 10: Repeat Rows 2 and 3 alternately — increase on the even rows, plain on the odd rows. (77, 85, 93, ending at 101 sc after Row 10)
CHECKPOINT: after Row 10 you should have 101 stitches — fronts 16 and 15 (the button band will even out the overlap side), sleeves 21 each, back 28.
Body
Row 11 (separation row): Chain 1, single crochet across the 16 front stitches, chain 4, skip the 21 sleeve stitches, single crochet across the 28 back stitches, chain 4, skip the 21 sleeve stitches, single crochet across the 15 front stitches. Turn. (59 sc + 8 ch = 67 sts)
Rows 12 to 36: Chain 3 (counts as double crochet), double crochet in each stitch across. Turn. (67 dc each row)
Fasten off.
Button Band
Join mint at the bottom corner of the right front edge.
Rows 1 to 2: Chain 1, single crochet evenly up the front edge (about 36 stitches). Turn. (36 sc each row)
Row 3 (buttonhole row): Chain 1, *single crochet in the next 6 stitches, chain 2, skip 2 stitches; repeat from * 2 more times, single crochet to the end. Turn.
Rows 4 to 5: Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch and chain across. Turn. (36 sc each row)
Fasten off. Sew the three buttons to the left front edge, aligned with the buttonholes.
Sleeves
Join mint at one underarm. Work in rounds around the 25 stitches of the armhole (21 held stitches + 4 chain stitches).
Rounds 1 to 12: Chain 3, double crochet in each stitch around. Join. (25 dc each round)
Rounds 13 to 14 (cuff): Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch around. Join. (25 sc each round)
Picot edging: *Chain 3, slip stitch in the next stitch; repeat from * around. Join and fasten off.
Repeat for the second sleeve.
Hood
Join mint at the right front corner of the neckline. Single crochet evenly across the back of the neckline (36 stitches — the two front neckline sections stay open for the jacket front).
Rows 1 to 12: Chain 1, single crochet in each of the 36 stitches. Turn. (36 sc each row)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Fold the rectangle in half and whipstitch the top seam closed to form the hood.
Bunny Ears (make 2)
Outer ear: With mint, chain 14.
Row 1: Single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. Turn. (13 sc)
Rows 2 to 9: Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch across. Turn. (13 sc each row)
Row 10: Chain 1, decrease, single crochet in the next 9 stitches, decrease. Turn. (11 sc)
Row 11: Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch across. (11 sc)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Inner ear: With white, chain 9.
Row 1: single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. Turn. (8 sc) Rows 2 to 7: chain 1, single crochet in each stitch across. (8 sc each row) Fasten off, leaving a tail.
Sew one white inner ear centered on each mint outer ear, then sew the ears to the top of the hood about 3.5 inches apart, stitching through the bottom inch so they stand up.
Hood Drawstring with Pompoms
With white, chain 70. Fasten off. Thread the chain through the base of the hood, weaving in and out every 3 stitches, centering it so equal lengths hang on each side.
Make two 1.5-inch white pompoms and tie one firmly to each end of the drawstring.
Cottontail Pompom
Make one fluffy 3-inch white pompom (wrap the yarn about 100 times, tie off tightly, cut, and fluff). Sew it very firmly to the back of the jacket at the hemline — this tail gets grabbed a lot.
Weave in all ends and steam lightly.
Sophie’s Tips
- Because the jacket is worked in rows, mark the right side with a safety pin — it’s surprisingly easy to lose track of which side your buttonholes are on.
- When you pick up stitches for the hood, keep them even but don’t obsess over the count; the hood is forgiving and a stitch or two either way won’t show.
- Sew the pompoms on like you mean it — little hands WILL tug that tail, so take the yarn through several times and knot it well on the inside.
One mint bunny jacket, three pompoms, endless chilly-day adventures — happy crocheting, friend!
