# Sage Green Boho Ruffle Top Free Crochet Pattern
This one is SERIOUSLY one of my favorite makes this year, friends. Those dramatic double-layer ruffle sleeves, the airy V-stitch lace bodice, the sweet little ribbon ties at the shoulders — it looks like it belongs in a boutique window, but I promise every section is completely doable once you break it down.
The construction is the clever part: a simple ribbed waistband first, then you pick up stitches and work the lace bodice upward in the round. Split for the armholes, shape a square neckline, seam the shoulders, and save the best for last — those show-stopping ruffle sleeves picked up around the armholes. It works up in about 14 to 20 hours, and the payoff is enormous.

The Pattern
Gauge:
- E-4 / 3.5 mm hook in half double crochet lace pattern: 18 sts x 12 rows = 4 in, blocked
- Ribbing: 20 sts x 16 rows = 4 in, blocked
- Swatch before you start — this is a fitted garment

V-stitch (V-st): 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc all in the same st or space.
Lace pattern (4-st repeat): Sk 1 st, V-st in next st, sk 1 st, sc in next st. On following rounds, sc goes into the sc below and V-st goes into the ch-1 sp of the V-st below.
Ribbed Waistband
With E-4 hook, ch 13.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Turn. (12 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in BLO of each st across. (12 sc)
Repeat Row 2 until the strip measures 32 (34, 36, 38, 41) in for XS (S, M, L, XL). Seam the short ends together with a slip stitch seam. You now have a ring about 2.5-3 in tall.
Bodice Foundation
Join yarn at the seam on the top edge of the ribbing.
Round 1: Ch 1, work 1 sc evenly around the top edge (about 1 sc per row end), adjusting to 144 (152, 160, 168, 176) sc. Place a marker at the halfway point for the front/back division.
Lace Bodice
Round 2: Ch 2 (does not count as st). (Sk 1 sc, V-st in next sc, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc) around, join. [36 (38, 40, 42, 44) V-sts and same number of sc]
Round 3: Ch 2. (Sc in sc below, V-st in ch-1 sp of V-st below) around, join.
Rounds 4-14: Repeat Round 3. Lace section ≈ 5 in above the waistband.
Front and Back Panels
Split at the markers: each panel gets 72 (76, 80, 84, 88) sts.
Transition row: Join yarn at the first st of the back panel. Ch 1, sc across the panel, working 1 sc into each dc and each ch-1 sp. [72 (76, 80, 84, 88) sc]
Armhole bind-off: Leave 4 sts unworked at each end. [64 (68, 72, 76, 80) sc]
**Armhole
rows 1-3:** Ch 1, turn, dec over first 2 sts, sc across to last 2 sts, dec over last 2 sts. Turn. End with 58 (62, 66, 70, 74) sc.
Work even in sc for 8 (8, 9, 9, 10) rows for XS (S, M, L, XL).
Neckline and Shoulders
Divide remaining sts into three: left shoulder 10 (11, 12, 13, 14) sts, center 38 (40, 42, 44, 46) sts, right shoulder 10 (11, 12, 13, 14) sts.
Work 4 rows of sc over each shoulder section. Fasten off with long tails.
Repeat the whole panel sequence for the front panel. Seam front shoulders to back shoulders.
Neckline Edging
Join yarn at any neckline corner.
Round 1: Ch 1, sc evenly around the entire square neckline, 1 sc per st/row end, 3 sc in each corner. Join.
Round 2: Ch 1, sc around with 3 sc in each corner sc. Join and fasten off.
Ruffle Sleeves (make 2)
Switch to F-5 / 3.75 mm hook. Join yarn at center underarm.
Pickup round: Ch 1, sc evenly around the armhole to 48 (52, 56, 60, 64) sc. Join.
Outer ruffle (front loops only):
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in same st, 3 dc in every st around. Join. [144 (156, 168, 180, 192) dc]
Round 2: Ch 3, 1 dc in same st, 2 dc in every st around. Join. [288 (312, 336, 360, 384) dc]
Round 3: Ch 1, sl st loosely in each st around. Fasten off.
Inner ruffle (back loops of pickup round): Rejoin yarn.
Round 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, 3 dc in every st around. Join. [144 (156, 168, 180, 192) dc]
Round 2: Ch 1, sl st loosely in each st around. Fasten off.
Repeat for the second sleeve. Outer ruffle drops about 3-4 in below the armhole; inner ruffle about 1.5-2 in.
Shoulder Ties
Cut two 18-in ribbons, fold each in half, and tack the fold to the outer edge of each shoulder strap. Tie into bows. (Or ch 80, sl st back down the chain — make 4, attach two per shoulder, and tie.)
Weave in all ends and wet block — cotton lace blooms beautifully. Lay flat, pin to measurements, and let dry completely.
Sophie’s Tips
- Try the waistband on before you pick up the bodice — the ribbing should stretch comfortably but feel snug, since cotton relaxes with wear.
- Keep your tension loose and flowy on the ruffle rounds; tight stitches make ruffles stand up stiff instead of draping.
- Count V-sts after every lace round until the pattern clicks — the openwork hides mistakes that only show up at blocking.
Go twirl in those ruffles — you earned every single one of them!
