# Midnight Purple Boho Crochet Set Free Pattern
Deep midnight purple, a little fringe, a lot of attitude — this boho poncho and headband set is my love letter to cozy festival style. I wore the poncho over a plain black dress last fall and got asked three times where I bought it. “I made it” never gets old, friends. Never.
The poncho is worked top-down with simple corner increases, so it drapes in that perfect pointed shape with zero seaming. The headband is a quick ribbed strip with a twist detail. Together they look like a boutique set; separately they’re both wardrobe staples.

What You’ll Need
- Worsted weight (#4) yarn in deep purple (a heathered or tonal purple is gorgeous here) — about 700 yards for the poncho, 80 yards for the headband
- Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers (4)
Finished size:
- Poncho: adult one-size. Neck opening 24 inches
- Length from neck to point 24 inches. Headband: 20 inches around, 3.5 inches wide (fits average adult head)

Poncho
Chain 88, join to form a ring, being careful not to twist. Place a stitch marker every 22 stitches to mark the 4 corners.
Round 1: Chain 2 (counts as DC), DC in next 21 stitches, *(DC, chain 2, DC) in next stitch — corner made*, *DC in next 21 stitches, (DC, chain 2, DC) in next stitch*, repeat 2 more times, join. (92 DC + 4 corner chain-2 spaces)
Rounds 2–44: Chain 2, *DC in each stitch to the next corner, (DC, chain 2, DC) in the corner chain-2 space*, repeat around, join. Each round adds 8 stitches.
After Round 44 you will have 436 DC + 4 corners. The poncho should measure about 23 inches from the neck to the front point.
Fringe round: Cut 8-inch strands of yarn. Attach 3 strands with a lark’s head knot in every other stitch around the bottom edge. Trim evenly.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Headband
Chain 72.
Row 1: HDC in third chain from hook and each chain across, chain 2, turn. (70 HDC)
Rows 2–6: *Front post HDC in next stitch, back post HDC in next stitch*, repeat across, chain 2, turn. (70 stitches)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Overlap the short ends by 2 inches and whipstitch to form the band — or twist one end once before seaming for the classic turban twist.
Sophie’s Tips
- Count your corner chain-2 spaces every few rounds. If you miss a corner increase, the poncho goes lopsided fast, and frogging twenty rounds is nobody’s idea of fun.
- A heathered or hand-dyed-look purple hides any tiny tension wobbles and gives that rich boho depth. Worth the extra dollar a skein.
- The fringe is optional but it really sells the boho look — cut all your strands first (a book works as a winding guide) so they come out even.
Throw it on, add the headband, and go be effortlessly cool!
