Christmas wreath with jingling bells and a big white bow

There’s something so nostalgic about this wreath — the jingling bells, the big white bow, that vintage Christmas-card look. Every time my front door opens, I get the sweetest little jingle, and honestly? It never gets old. This one is going to make you feel like you’re living inside a snow globe.

The construction is wonderfully simple: a clean green ring, a cluster of real jingle bells, and one big statement bow. The pattern uses an easy 4-inch gauge, so you can check your tension in about two minutes and then crochet with total confidence. If you can single crochet, you can make this wreath.

What You’ll Need

  • Worsted weight (#4) yarn in deep green (about 150 yards)
  • Small amount of white yarn for the bow
  • Size H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook
  • 10-inch foam or wire wreath form
  • 8-12 small gold or silver jingle bells
  • Tapestry needle
  • Ribbon for a hanging loop (or use the bow’s tails)

Finished size: Approximately 14 inches across, including the bow.

The Pattern

Gauge Check

Work a 4-inch square in single crochet: chain 18, then SC for 18 rows. Your square should measure 4 inches across. Adjust your hook size up or down if needed — for this wreath, being close is perfectly fine.

The Wreath Base

With green yarn, chain 120 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring, being careful not to twist.

Rounds 1-6: SC in each stitch around (120 SC). Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Slip the tube over your wreath form and whipstitch the long edges together around the back. Give it a good fluff with your fingers so the stitches look even and full.

The Big White Bow

With white yarn, chain 31.

Rows 1-8: SC across (30 SC), chain 1, turn. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Fold the rectangle in half to make a bow shape: pinch the center together and wrap the tail tightly around the middle several times, then knot it at the back. For the bow tails, chain 25, SC back across, and make 2. Sew the tails behind the bow center.

Assembly

Sew the big white bow to the top of the wreath. Thread your jingle bells onto a 24-inch strand of green yarn, spacing them about 2 inches apart, and wrap this bell garland around the lower two-thirds of the wreath, tucking the ends into the back. Make sure a few bells hang slightly forward so they catch the breeze and jingle when the door moves! Attach a ribbon loop at the top behind the bow.

Sophie’s Tips

  • Test your bells before sewing — give them a little shake and toss any that don’t ring nicely.
  • For extra vintage charm, use slightly tarnished-look gold bells instead of shiny new ones.
  • If your bow looks floppy, work one more row of SC around all four edges to stiffen it up.

Hang it where the door moves a lot — that jingle is the whole point!
