# Merry Christmas Wreath Pattern Free Crochet Pattern

If you love a wreath that tells a whole Christmas story, this one is for you. Mine is covered in the cutest little santas, gift boxes, and stockings — plus real pine cones and ribbon bows for that fresh-from-the-forest feel. It’s the kind of door decor that makes kids (and grown-ups) stop and point.
The pattern calls for a 4mm hook, which keeps all the little motifs nice and tight, but don’t let the small hook scare you off — this is a genuinely beginner-friendly holiday project. Every motif is simple shapes, and you just keep adding them until the wreath looks full. I finished mine in about a week of cozy evenings.
What You’ll Need
- Worsted weight (#4) yarn in green, red, white, skin tone, and black (small amounts of each)
- Size G-6 (4 mm) crochet hook
- 10-inch foam wreath form
- 4-5 small real pine cones
- Ribbon bows (3-4, store-bought or handmade)
- Tapestry needle
- Polyfill for the mini santas
- Hot glue gun (optional, for pine cones and bows)
Finished size: Approximately 14 inches across when finished and fully decorated.
The Pattern
The Wreath Base
With green yarn and your 4mm hook, chain 130 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring, being careful not to twist.
Rounds 1-6: SC in each stitch around (130 SC). Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Slip this tube over the foam wreath form and whipstitch the long edges together around the back.
Mini Santas (make 3)
Body: With red yarn: magic ring, 6 SC.
Round 2: 2 SC in each (12 SC). Rounds 3-4: SC in each (12 SC).
Round 5: Switch to white, SC in each (12 SC) — this is the fur trim. Fasten off, stuff lightly.
Head: With skin tone yarn: magic ring, 6 SC.
Round 2: 2 SC in each (12 SC). Rounds 3-4: SC in each (12 SC).
Round 5: SC decrease around (6 SC). Fasten off, stuff lightly.
Hat: With red yarn: magic ring, 4 SC.
Round 2: SC in each (4 SC).
Round 3: \*SC in first, 2 SC in next\* (6 SC).
Round 4: SC in each (6 SC).
Round 5: \*SC in first 2, 2 SC in next\* (8 SC). Switch to white for one final round of SC (8 SC) and add a tiny white pom-pom. Fasten off.
Beard: With white yarn, chain 6. SC in 2nd chain from hook, HDC in next, DC in next 2, HDC in last. Fasten off.
Sew the head to the body, add the hat at a jaunty angle, stitch on the beard, and embroider two tiny black eyes.
Gift Boxes (make 4)
With any color yarn, chain 9. Rows 1-6: SC across (8 SC), chain 1, turn. Fold into a cube shape and stitch the edges closed, stuffing lightly as you go. With white or contrasting yarn, embroider a cross over the top and sides for the ribbon, and tie a tiny bow on top.
Mini Stockings (make 3)
Chain 8. Rows 1-6: SC across (7 SC), chain 1, turn. For the heel: chain 1, turn, SC in the first 4 stitches only, for 3 rows. Return to working across all 7 stitches for 3 more rows. Switch to white: final 2 rows: SC across (7 SC). Fold in half lengthwise and stitch the sides, then close the toe with a few decreases. Add a white cuff at the top by working one round of SC around the opening.

Assembly
Space the 3 santas evenly around the wreath and sew them on. Tuck the gift boxes and stockings between them, stitching through the green base. Hot-glue (or wire) the pine cones into the gaps, and finish with your ribbon bows at the top, bottom, and sides. Add a hanging loop and you’re done!

Sophie’s Tips
- Make the motifs in batches — all three santas at once, then all the boxes — it goes much faster than switching projects.
- A drop of fabric glue on the back of each bow keeps them perfectly positioned through the whole season.
- Let the kids pick where each motif goes! Mine insisted the santas all face the street “so they can see who’s coming.”
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas from my door to yours!
