# Blueberry Baby Hat and Pants Set Free Crochet Pattern
I dare you to look at this set without smiling. A soft blueberry-blue hat topped with a little berry bobble and leaf, plus the comfiest sage-trimmed pants — it is equal parts adorable and practical. This is my go-to gift for new babies because it photographs like a dream and actually gets worn.
Both pieces are worked in simple stitches with zero fussy shaping. The hat is a basic beanie with a cute topper, and the pants are just two tubes joined with a stretchy ribbed waistband. If you have made a hat before, the pants will feel like a breeze.

Rounds 14-15 (brim, sage green): Join sage green. Chain 1, sc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (45 sc) Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Blueberry bobble: With blueberry blue, make a magic ring, chain 1, work 10 hdc into the ring, slip stitch to join, pull tight. Fasten off, leaving a tail. Leaf: With sage green, chain 6, sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, hdc in the next, dc in the next 2, hdc in the last. Fasten off. Sew the bobble to the top of the hat with the leaf tucked beside it.
Pants
Legs (make 2): With blueberry blue, chain 40, join with a slip stitch to form a ring, being careful not to twist.
Rounds 1-10: Chain 2 (counts as hdc), hdc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (40 hdc) Fasten off the first leg; do not fasten off the second.
Joining:
Round 11: Chain 2, hdc in each stitch around the second leg (40 sts), then continue across the first leg — hdc in each of its 40 stitches. Slip stitch to join. (80 hdc)
Rounds 12-17: Chain 2, hdc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (80 hdc)
Round 18 (decrease): Chain 2, (hdc in the next 8 sts, hdc2tog) repeat around, slip stitch to join. (72 hdc)
Rounds 19-20: Chain 2, hdc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (72 hdc)
Waistband (sage green): Join sage green.
Rounds 21-24: Chain 2, (front post dc in the next stitch, back post dc in the next stitch) repeat around, slip stitch to join. (72 sts of ribbing) Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Leg cuffs: Join sage green at the bottom of each leg. Chain 1, sc in each stitch around for 2 rounds. Fasten off. (40 sc per leg)
Weave in all ends and block lightly.
Sophie’s Tips
- The ribbed waistband has plenty of stretch, so do not worry if it looks small off the baby — it grows.
- Try the hat on a 6-inch ball or balloon while you work the straight rounds to check the depth — baby heads vary.
- Make the whole set in soft gray with a red bobble and it becomes the sweetest little apple set instead.
The sweetest little blueberry in the patch — happy hooking!
