# Poinsettia Napkin Ring Crochet Pattern

Christmas table with poinsettia napkin rings

Want to know my secret for a holiday table that looks like I hired a decorator? Napkin rings! They take the most ordinary folded napkin and turn it into a whole moment. And these little poinsettia ones are so easy — just a couple of stitches — that you can make a full set of eight in a weekend.

I love how they double as a tiny gift, too. Set one at each place, and your guests get to take a little handmade Christmas home with them. That never fails to make people smile.

What You’ll Need

  • Worsted weight yarn in red, green, and gold (small amounts)
  • Size G (4.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle

Finished size:

  • Ring measures approximately 2 inches in diameter (fits a standard rolled napkin)
  • Flower measures about 2.5 inches across

The Pattern

Worked in US crochet terms. Make as many as you need for your table!

Ring Band

With green, chain 20. Join with a slip stitch to form a ring, being careful not to twist.

Rounds 1–3: Chain 1, SC in each stitch around, join with a slip stitch. (20 SC per round)

Fasten off and weave in the ends. The band should slip snugly over a rolled cloth napkin.

Petals (make 5)

With red, chain 8.

Side A: SC in 2nd chain from hook, HDC in next 2 chains, DC in next 2 chains, TR in next chain, (TR, chain 2, TR) in last chain.

Side B: TR in next chain, DC in next 2 chains, HDC in next 2 chains, SC in last chain. Join, fasten off with a tail.

Leaf (make 1)

With green, chain 8. Work exactly like a petal but replace the tip with (HDC, chain 2, HDC) for a softer leaf shape. Fasten off with a tail.

Center

With gold, make a magic ring, chain 1, 6 SC into the ring, join. (6 SC) Fasten off with a tail.

Assembly

1. Sew the 5 red petals into a small circle, overlapping the base ends.

2. Stitch the gold center onto the middle of the petals.

3. Sew the flower to the front of the green ring band, positioning it slightly above center.

4. Tuck the green leaf behind the flower at a jaunty angle and stitch it down. Weave in all ends.

Sophie’s Tips

  • Roll the napkin first, then slide the ring on — the flower should sit facing outward on the table. It takes two seconds to get the placement right.
  • Mix it up: make half the flowers red and half cream for a gorgeous alternating table setting.
  • These are fantastic teacher gifts, neighbor gifts, and “I forgot I needed a hostess gift” gifts. Ask me how I know!

Set the table, light the candles, and enjoy your prettiest Christmas dinner yet!
