# Strawberry Patch Granny Square Tote Free Crochet Pattern

Strawberry sweet! This tote is made of granny squares in berry reds, soft pinks, and cream — with tiny crocheted strawberry appliques scattered over it. It’s playful, it’s summery-without-being-summer (berry season is forever!), and it’s the bag I carry to the farmer’s market.

The squares are simple two-color grannies, the strawberries are tiny motifs sewn on, and the whole thing comes together in a weekend. Sweet as pie!

The Pattern

Granny Squares (make 12)

Alternate red/pink centers with cream rounds, and cream centers with red/pink rounds.

Round 1: With red (or pink), make a magic ring. Ch 3 (counts as DC), 2 DC into the ring, Ch 2, *3 DC into the ring, Ch 2,* repeat 3 times, join. Fasten off.

Round 2: Join cream in any Ch-2 space. Ch 3, 2 DC in the same space, Ch 2, 3 DC in the same space, *Ch 1, (3 DC, Ch 2, 3 DC) in the next Ch-2 space,* repeat around, Ch 1, join.

Round 3: Continue in cream, working corners in corners and 3 DC in each Ch-1 space. Join. Fasten off.

Each square about 4.5 inches. Make 6 with red centers, 6 with pink centers.

Strawberries (make 8)

With red, make a magic ring.

Round 1: 6 SC into the ring. (6 SC)

Round 2: *SC in the next stitch, 2 SC in the next stitch,* repeat around. (9 SC)

Round 3: SC in each stitch around. (9 SC) Fasten off. With green, work 3 tiny leaves (Ch 4, slip stitch back) and sew to the top. Embroider tiny yellow seed dots.

Assembly

Arrange the 12 squares in a 3-wide by 4-tall grid, alternating red-center and pink-center squares like a checkerboard. Whipstitch together. Fold and seam the sides and bottom.

Handles (make 2)

With red, Ch 8. Work 65 rows of SC across 7 stitches. Sew to the top edge with reinforced stitching.

Sew the strawberries scattered over the front and back. Weave in all ends.

Sophie’s Tips

  • The checkerboard layout shows off both square types — don’t cluster all the reds together.
  • Strawberries look best in odd numbers and asymmetric placement.
  • This tote in blueberry blues is equally adorable for a different vibe.
