# Sharlotte The Crochet Spider Free Pattern

Everybody, meet Sharlotte — the sweetest little spider you’ll ever hook! She may be tiny (about two inches tall in worsted weight yarn), but her personality is enormous. Those big embroidered eyes with fluttery lashes? I’m obsessed.
Sharlotte is a dream beginner project: she starts with a magic circle, works up in simple continuous spirals, and the whole pattern uses just single crochet, increases, decreases, double crochet, and slip stitches. The 3-sc-in-one-stitch trick gives her that adorable flattened spider shape with no extra sewing. If you’ve made one amigurumi before, you can absolutely make Sharlotte!
Materials
- Worsted weight (4) yarn in your favorite spider color
- Crochet hook to match your yarn (a size that gives you tight, no-gap stitches)
- Stitch marker or a scrap of contrasting yarn
- Black embroidery floss and embroidery needle (for the eyes and lashes)
- Polyester fiberfill
- Yarn/darning needle, scissors
Skill level: Beginner (US crochet terms)
Finished size: Approximately 2″ tall in worsted weight yarn — size varies with yarn and hook
Abbreviations
sc = single crochet, st/sts = stitch(es), inc = increase (2 sc in one stitch), dec = decrease (join 2 sc into 1), dc = double crochet, sl st = slip stitch, R = round, ( ) = repeat the group
The Pattern
Sharlotte is worked in continuous spirals with no joining — pop a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round so you always know where you are.
- R1: 4 sc into a magic circle {4 sts}
*(Alternate start: chain 2, sc 4 times in the 2nd chain from the hook)*
- R2: (sc in next st, 3 sc in next st) 2 times {8 sts}
- R3: (sc in next st, 3 sc in next st) 4 times {16 sts}
- R4: sc in next 2 sts, (3 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts) 3 times, 3 sc in next st, sc in next st {24 sts}
- R5: sc in next 3 sts, (3 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts) 3 times, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts {32 sts}
- R6: sc in next 4 sts, (3 sc in next st, sc in next 7 sts) 3 times, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts {40 sts}
- R7: sc in back loop only in next 40 sts {40 sts}
- R8–15: sc in next 40 sts {40 sts}

- R16: (dec, sc in next 3 sts) 8 times {32 sts}
Embroidering the Eyes and Lashes
This is where Sharlotte really comes to life! Place a pin in the middle of the piece, between R12 and R13.
1. Thread a long piece of black embroidery floss into your needle and knot the end.
2. On the inside of the piece, pick up a bit of yarn with your needle and knot it on the inside.
3. Embroider into the 2nd stitch to the right of the pin. Insert your needle one round up and one stitch over.
4. Knot on the inside, then insert your needle back through the same stitch.
5. Go one round down and one stitch over, knot on the inside, and back through the same stitch.
6. Now make the lashes: go one round up for the first eyelash, then move up again for the second eyelash. Secure with a knot on the inside.
7. Repeat the whole thing on the other side, starting in the 2nd stitch to the left of the pin.

Continue the pattern:
- R17: (dec, sc in next 2 sts) 8 times {24 sts}
Begin to stuff the head and continue as you crochet. Don’t overstuff — you want the top and bottom to lay nice and flat so Sharlotte sits properly.
- R18: (dec, sc in next st) 8 times {16 sts}
- R19: (dec) 8 times {8 sts}
Fasten off, leaving a long tail of yarn to sew the head shut.
Assembly
There isn’t any — that’s the beauty of Sharlotte! The shape is built right into the rounds. Just weave in your ends and she’s ready for her close-up.
Tips From Sophie
- Marker, marker, marker: In continuous spirals it’s SO easy to lose your place. Move that stitch marker up every single round. Future-you says thanks.
- Gentle stuffing: Resist the urge to overstuff! A softly filled Sharlotte keeps that cute flat spider shape.
- Make a family: Whip up a few in different colors — a black Sharlotte, a purple Sharlotte, maybe a sparkly one. They look adorable clustered on a shelf.
- Gift idea: Sharlotte tucks perfectly into a Halloween treat bag or a lunchbox note. Instant smile!
Happy hooking! I have a feeling Sharlotte won’t be the only spider on your hook this season. 🕷️💕
