Candy-colored crochet Christmas wreath

Warning: this wreath may cause sudden cravings. Swirls of candy pink, cherry red, and snowy white — a big beautiful bow, a striped candy cane, sprigs of mistletoe, and the fluffiest pom poms — it looks like the inside of a candy shop exploded in the best possible way. My neighbor stopped her car to ask about this one. Her actual car. True story.

Everything here is beginner-friendly: the whole wreath is simple stitches in the yummiest color palette, and the candy cane is just stripes bent into shape. If you can single crochet, you can make this.

What You’ll Need

  • Worsted-weight yarn in candy pink, cherry red, white, and leaf green
  • 5.0 mm (H) crochet hook
  • 12-inch foam or wire wreath form
  • Tapestry needle and scissors
  • Small piece of cardboard (for making pom poms)

Finished size: Approximately 14 inches across when finished.

The Pattern

Striped Wreath Cover

With white, join yarn to the wreath form with a slip stitch. Chain 1 and work single crochet around the form, changing colors every 2 rounds in this sequence: white, candy pink, white, cherry red. Continue until the form is fully covered. Join, fasten off, and weave in the ends — the stripes will peek out between decorations like peppermint swirls.

Big Bow

With cherry red, chain 36. Work 8 rows of double crochet. (35 double crochet per row) Fasten off. Pinch the rectangle in the middle and wrap yarn tightly around the center to form the bow. For tails, chain 20 and work 3 rows of double crochet; make two and sew them behind the bow.

Candy Cane

With white, chain 40.

Row 1: Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and across, changing to cherry red every 4 stitches for stripes. (39) Rows 2-3: Repeat Row 1, keeping the stripes aligned. Fasten off. Bend the top of the strip into a hook shape and stitch it in place with a few whip stitches — the crochet fabric holds the curve nicely.

Mistletoe Sprigs (make 2)

With leaf green, chain 10. *Chain 5, work 4 single crochet back down the chain, slip stitch into the main chain* — repeat from * twice more. Fasten off. Sew on three tiny white berries (magic ring, 4 single crochet, join).

Pom Poms (make 5)

Wrap white yarn around a 2-inch piece of cardboard about 60 times. Slide the loops off, tie tightly around the middle with a separate strand, cut the loops, and fluff into a ball. Trim into a neat sphere. Make two in candy pink as well for a total of five.

Assembling Your Wreath

Sew the big bow to the top of the wreath. Attach the candy cane diagonally across the lower right, tuck the mistletoe sprigs near the top left, and scatter the pom poms around the ring like gumdrops. Sew everything firmly — this wreath has a lot of personality and needs sturdy stitching.

Sophie’s Tips

  • Keep your stripe changes on the back of the wreath where they’ll be hidden — carry the unused color loosely behind.
  • Make the candy cane the day before assembly and let it “rest” bent; it holds the hook shape even better.
  • This color palette is adorable for a little girl’s bedroom door too, all winter long.

Sweet as can be and impossible to ignore — this candy-colored wreath will be the talk of the neighborhood!
