Navy Sunflower Drawstring Pouch Free Crochet Pattern

Navy sunflower drawstring pouch

# Navy Sunflower Drawstring Pouch Free Crochet Pattern

There is something about navy and sunflower yellow together that just makes me happy — it’s like a little piece of late-summer sky you can carry around. This drawstring pouch is the perfect small project: one evening of simple rounds, a cheerful sunflower applique, and a pretty cord drawstring to finish it off.

I use mine for crochet hooks and stitch markers, but it would be just as lovely holding jewelry, lip balm, or little treasures. And because it’s small, it’s the ideal stash-buster — those leftover bits of yellow and brown finally get their moment.

The Pattern

Work the body in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker to track the first stitch of each round.

Pouch Body (navy)

Round 1: Magic ring, 6 sc into the ring. (6 sts)

Round 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)

Round 3: *Sc 1, inc* repeat around. (18 sts)

Round 4: *Sc 2, inc* repeat around. (24 sts)

Round 5: *Sc 3, inc* repeat around. (30 sts)

Round 6: *Sc 4, inc* repeat around. (36 sts)

Round 7: Working in back loops only, sc in each st around. (36 sts) — this creates a crisp edge where the base meets the sides.

Rounds 8–20: Sc in each st around. (36 sts)

Round 21 (eyelet round): *Ch 1, skip 1 st, sc in next st* repeat around. (18 sc, 18 ch-1 spaces)

Round 22: Sc in each sc and each ch-1 space around. (36 sts)

Round 23: Sc in each st around. (36 sts)

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Sunflower Applique

Center (brown):

Round 1: Magic ring, 6 sc into the ring. (6 sts)

Round 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)

Round 3: *Sc 1, inc* repeat around. (18 sts)

Fasten off brown.

Petals (yellow): Join yellow yarn in any stitch of Round 3. *(Sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc) all in the next st, slip stitch in the next st* — repeat 9 times around. (9 petals)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Center the sunflower on the front of the pouch and whipstitch it in place through the back of the petals.

Drawstring (cream)

Chain 120. Fasten off. Thread the chain through the eyelet spaces of Round 21, going over one stitch and under the next all the way around. Tie the two ends together in a small knot, and add a tiny tassel to each end if you like: wrap cream yarn 10 times around two fingers, tie at the top, cut the bottom loops, and attach.

Sophie’s Tips

  • If your drawstring cord curls, give it a gentle tug and let it hang with a little weight (a clothespin works!) for an hour — it will straighten right out.
  • Want a sturdier pouch? Work the body in single crochet through the back loop only for a lovely ridged texture.
  • This sunflower looks adorable on everything — sew one onto a hat, a tote, or a baby bonnet with the same pattern.

Go tuck your little treasures into something sunny!
