Navy nautical floral bucket bag

# Navy Nautical Floral Bucket Bag Free Crochet Pattern

Ahoy, bag lovers! This little bucket bag is my love letter to the coast — deep navy, crisp white stripes, and the sweetest floral appliques scattered like wildflowers on a cliff path. It is the kind of bag that goes with everything from a sundress to jeans and a striped tee.

The construction is delightfully simple: a flat circle base, straight sides worked in the round, and a drawstring top that cinches everything closed. The flowers are quick little motifs you sew on wherever you like, so every bag comes out a little different. Weekend project, endless compliments.

Body

Round 9: Chain 1, working in the back loops only, sc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (48 sc) This creates the crisp turn from base to sides.

Rounds 10-15: Chain 1, sc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (48 sc)

Rounds 16-17 (white stripe): Join white. Chain 1, sc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (48 sc)

Rounds 18-23 (navy): Join navy. Chain 1, sc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (48 sc)

Rounds 24-25 (white stripe): Join white. Chain 1, sc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (48 sc)

Rounds 26-29 (navy): Join navy. Chain 1, sc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (48 sc)

Drawstring Casing

Round 30: Chain 2 (counts as hdc), (hdc in the next stitch, chain 1, skip 1 stitch) repeat around, slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain-2. (24 hdc, 24 chain-1 spaces)

Round 31: Chain 1, sc in each stitch and each chain-1 space around, slip stitch to join. (48 sc)

Round 32: Chain 1, sc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. Fasten off and weave in the ends. (48 sc)

Drawstring: With white, chain 120. Fasten off. Weave the drawstring in and out of the chain-1 spaces of Round 30, knot the ends together, and trim.

Floral Appliques (make 5)

Flower: With white, make a magic ring. Chain 1, (sc into the ring, chain 3, 2 dc into the ring, chain 3, slip stitch into the ring) 5 times. Pull the ring tight and fasten off. Center: With coral, make a magic ring, chain 1, work 8 sc into the ring, slip stitch to join, fasten off, and sew the center onto the flower.

Sew the flowers onto the bag front in a scattered cluster, weaving in all ends on the inside.

Sophie’s Tips

  • Cotton yarn is a must for bags — it keeps the bucket shape instead of stretching into a sad sack.
  • Space your flowers before sewing by pinning them on and stepping back for a look. Asymmetry looks charming; a straight row looks fussy.
  • Swap the coral centers for sunny yellow and the whole bag reads instantly coastal-cottage.

Fair winds and happy hooking — this little bag is going places.
