Lavender Garden Granny Square Purse Free Crochet Pattern

Lavender garden granny square purse

# Lavender Garden Granny Square Purse Free Crochet Pattern

A little garden you can carry. This purse is made of lavender and sage granny squares, with tiny embroidered garden flowers dancing across them — daisies, lavender sprigs, little buds. It’s the most charming small bag I own, and it makes me smile every time I pick it up.

The squares are classic granny, the flowers are simple embroidery, and the whole thing comes together in a weekend. Carry a garden with you!

The Pattern

Granny Square (make 12 — 6 lavender, 6 sage)

With your square color, make a magic ring.

Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as DC), work 2 DC into the ring, Ch 2, *work 3 DC into the ring, Ch 2,* repeat 3 times, join. (4 clusters, 4 corners)

Round 2: Slip stitch to the first corner. Ch 3, (2 DC, Ch 2, 3 DC) in the corner, *Ch 1, (3 DC, Ch 2, 3 DC) in the next corner,* repeat around, Ch 1, join.

Round 3: Slip stitch to the first corner. Ch 3, (2 DC, Ch 2, 3 DC) in the corner, *Ch 1, 3 DC in the next Ch-1 space, Ch 1, (3 DC, Ch 2, 3 DC) in the next corner,* repeat around, Ch 1, join. Fasten off.

Each square measures about 4 inches.

Assembly

Join the squares into two panels (3 wide × 2 tall each), alternating lavender and sage in a checkerboard. Join the panels along the sides and bottom with whipstitch.

Flap, button loop, edging, and strap: Work exactly as a classic small purse — flap of 6 SC rows across the back top, Ch-8 button loop, button on the front, 1 round of SC around the top opening, and a Ch-150 slip-stitched cord strap sewn to the inside corners.

Embroidered Garden Flowers

With the embroidery needle, add tiny flowers to the squares: white daisies (5 French-knot petals around a yellow center), purple lavender sprigs (backstitch stem with knot buds), and scattered yellow buds. 2–3 flowers per square is plenty.

Weave in all ends.

Sophie’s Tips

  • Embroider AFTER joining the panels but BEFORE adding the flap — much easier to handle.
  • Less is more with the embroidery; 2–3 tiny flowers per square keeps it charming, not busy.
  • French knots take practice — do a few on scrap yarn first.

Cottage garden charm — carry it everywhere!
