Earthy boho granny square bag

# Earthy Boho Granny Square Bag Free Crochet Pattern

Earthy boho with wooden beads! This granny square bag combines warm browns, terracotta, and cream in a free-spirited boho mix, with wooden beads accenting the strap and edges. It’s natural, it’s earthy, and it’s the bag I carry when I want to feel connected to the earth.

The squares are simple grannies in earthy tones, the beads are just threaded on, and the whole thing has that perfectly imperfect boho charm. A weekend project with lasting style.

The Pattern

Granny Squares (make 10)

Vary the color combinations for a boho mix.

Round 1: With any color, make a magic ring. Ch 3 (counts as DC), 2 DC into the ring, Ch 2, *3 DC into the ring, Ch 2,* repeat 3 times, join. Fasten off.

Round 2: Join a second color in any Ch-2 space. Ch 3, 2 DC in the same space, Ch 2, 3 DC in the same space, *Ch 1, (3 DC, Ch 2, 3 DC) in the next Ch-2 space,* repeat around, Ch 1, join. Fasten off.

Round 3: Join the third color. Work corners in corners and 3 DC in each Ch-1 space. Join. Fasten off.

Each square about 4.5 inches.

Assembly

Arrange the 10 squares in a 2-wide by 5-tall grid (front 5, back 5), mixing the color combinations. Whipstitch with cream. Fold and seam the sides and bottom.

Beaded Strap

With brown, Ch 120. Thread 6 wooden beads onto the chain, spacing them evenly. SC back along the chain, working around the beads. Fasten off with long tails. Sew to the top edges. Make a second strap the same way, or use one long crossbody strap.

Thread 6 more beads onto a short cord and tie to the bag as a charm. Weave in all ends.

Sophie’s Tips

  • The boho look thrives on imperfection — don’t over-plan the color placement.
  • Wooden beads in different sizes look more organic than matching ones.
  • This bag in jewel tones (teal, purple, gold) is equally boho for a different vibe.
