# Crochet Rose Garden Baby Dress Free Pattern
If a garden party and a baby dress had a baby — well, you would get this dress. A sweet cream bodice dotted with little crocheted roses, a lacy rose-pink skirt, and the tiniest green leaves tucked in among the blooms. It is the dress I reach for when I want maximum “ohhh” from everyone in the room.
The bodice is simple double crochet with a button back, the skirt is an easy shell lace that grows quickly, and the roses are just rolled-up strips — they look fancy but take about five minutes each. A lovely afternoon project with a truly precious payoff.

What You’ll Need
- DK weight yarn — cream: approximately 250 yards; rose pink: approximately 200 yards; leaf green: approximately 50 yards (soft acrylic or cotton blend)
- US G-6 / 4.0 mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle and scissors
- 3 small buttons, about 0.5 inch across
Finished size:
- 6 to 12 months — chest 18 inches, dress length 14 inches, skirt length 9 inches
The Pattern
Gauge: 18 dc x 10 rows = 4 inches.

Bodice
With cream, chain 72.
Row 1 (RS): Dc in the 4th chain from the hook and in each chain across. (70 dc)
Rows 2-10: Chain 3 (counts as dc), turn, dc in each stitch across. (70 dc)
The bodice measures about 5 inches tall and has a center back opening — the first and last 6 stitches of each row overlap for the button band.
Button band edging: Join cream at the bottom of the right back edge. Chain 1, work sc evenly up the back edge, around the neckline, and down the left back edge. On the right edge, work 3 buttonholes: chain 2, skip 2 stitches at evenly spaced points. Fasten off and sew the buttons to the left edge.
Skirt
Join rose pink at the bottom edge of the bodice (the Row 1 edge).
Round 1: Chain 3 (counts as dc), work 2 dc in each stitch around the bodice bottom — join the back edges to work in the round. Slip stitch to join. (140 dc)
Round 2: Chain 1, sc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (140 sc)
Round 3 (shell lace): Chain 1, sc in the first stitch, (skip 2 sts, 5 dc in the next stitch, skip 2 sts, sc in the next stitch) repeat around. Slip stitch to join. (20 shells)
Round 4: Chain 3 (counts as dc), dc in each stitch around — 1 dc in every dc and every sc. Slip stitch to join. (140 dc)
Rounds 5-12: Repeat Rounds 3 and 4 four more times. The skirt measures about 9 inches from the bodice.
Round 13 (hem): Chain 1, sc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. Fasten off and weave in the ends. (140 sc)
Roses (make 7)
With rose pink, chain 16.
Row 1: 2 dc in the 4th chain from the hook and 2 dc in each chain across. (30 dc) Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Roll the strip into a spiral rose shape and stitch through the base with the tail to secure it.
Leaves (make 7)
With green, chain 7. Sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, hdc in the next, dc in the next 2, hdc in the next, sc in the last chain. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.
Assembly
Sew 5 roses with leaves scattered across the bodice front and 2 at the waistline. Weave in all ends and block gently — the shell skirt opens up beautifully with a light steam.
Sophie’s Tips
- Roll the roses loosely for full blooms and tightly for buds — mixing both looks the most garden-like.
- Sew the roses on with the tails and a yarn needle rather than glue; this dress will be washed, and stitching holds.
- A cream sash tied in a bow at the back waist is the perfect finishing touch for photos.
Straight out of the rose garden and into your arms — enjoy every wear.
