# Crochet Grinch Christmas Apron Free Crochet Pattern

Oh friends, this one makes me giggle every single time. If your heart is at least two sizes too small for all that holiday cheer (or if you’re just cooking for the Whoville crowd), this Grinch Christmas apron is the perfect kitchen companion. That mischievous grin will keep everyone on their toes while you whip up Christmas dinner!
This is an adult-size apron worked in simple single crochet — nice and sturdy, with a bold green body and red straps. Then we add the best part: those sneaky eyes and the wicked smile appliqué. Fair warning: you may start narrating your baking in rhyme. I know I do.

Waist Tie
With red yarn (or your middle strap color):
Chain 60, then attach to the top edge of the apron and SC 50 stitches, chain 61, turn.

Rows 54-55: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn. (170 SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Apron Top
Count 67 stitches in from the apron tie; in the next stitch join green yarn (or your main apron color) and chain 1.
Row 56: SC along 36 stitches (leave remaining stitches unworked), chain 1, turn.
Rows 57-84: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn.
NOTE: for the apron pictured, make the last 5 rows as 2 white rows and 3 red rows.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Neck Strap
With red yarn (or strap color of your choice), chain 66, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain. (65 SC)
Rows 2-3: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn. (65 SC)
Fasten off and use the loose ends to stitch the strap ends to the top edges of the apron. (Tip: if you make your starting chain fairly tight, it will naturally curve!)
The Grinch Face
Now the fun part! I like to crochet two white circles for the eyes (magic ring, chain 1, work 10 SC into the ring, join), add smaller black pupils (magic ring, chain 1, work 6 SC into the ring, join), and stitch them onto the upper part of the apron with a delightfully wicked smile sewn in black yarn. Place them slightly sideways for maximum mischief.
Sophie’s Tips
- The body is worked entirely in single crochet, so this is a wonderfully mindless TV project — perfect for holiday movie marathons.
- Use the green version as your base and you can dream up endless character aprons with different colors and faces. So many options!
- Make it in brown and white for a gingerbread look, or red and white for Santa — same pattern, totally different apron.
Go steal some Christmas cheer — and maybe a few cookies while you’re at it!
