Crochet snowman apron

Is there anything cuter than a tiny snowman helping you bake Christmas cookies? I think not! This crochet snowman apron turns your little kitchen helper into the most adorable snowman on the block — carrot nose, coal buttons, and all.

It’s worked from the bottom up in simple single crochet, so even if you’re fairly new to crochet, you can absolutely handle this one. And the face comes together with buttons (or crocheted circles if you prefer) plus a hand-stitched smile. My favorite kind of project: simple stitches, maximum cuteness.

What You’ll Need

  • Bernat Super Value yarn in White and Berry Red (one skein of each), plus a bit of Orange for the nose
  • Size H crochet hook
  • 3 one-inch black buttons for the belly (optional — you can crochet these instead)
  • 2 safety eyes for the eyes (optional — buttons or crocheted eyes work too)
  • Small strand of black yarn
  • Tapestry needle

Finished size:

  • Approximately 17 inches wide and 17 inches tall (not including the neck strap) — a great fit for kids

Apron Top

Count 57 stitches in from the apron tie; in the next stitch join white yarn and chain 1.

Row 46: SC along 26 stitches (leave remaining stitches unworked), chain 1, turn.

Rows 47-63: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Neck Strap

With white yarn, chain 51, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain. (50 SC)

Rows 2-3: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn. (50 SC)

Fasten off and use the loose ends to stitch the strap ends to the top edges of the apron. (Tip: if you make your starting chain fairly tight, it will naturally curve!)

Snowman Face

Triangle nose: With orange yarn, chain 5, SC in second chain from hook, HDC in next two, DC in last. Fasten off leaving a long tail and stitch it onto the snowman face on the upper part of the apron.

Stitch on 3 buttons to the lower part of the apron for the belly, and attach the safety eyes to the upper part. Then stitch on a smile with your tapestry needle and black yarn — and suddenly, snowman!

Prefer to skip the buttons? You can crochet the circles instead:

Bigger circle: magic ring, chain 1, work 10 SC in ring, join to first SC, fasten off and use the long tail to stitch it onto the apron.

Smaller circle: magic ring, chain 1, work 6 SC in ring, join to first SC, fasten off and use the long tail to stitch it onto the apron.

Sophie’s Tips

  • This pattern is easy to resize: add more rows to make it taller, or add chains to your starting chain to make it wider. Perfect for growing little helpers!
  • Use safety eyes only if the apron is for an older child — for toddlers, crocheted or sewn eyes are the safer choice.
  • The same basic apron body can become a whole Christmas crew with different colors — so many options!

Happy baking with your favorite little snowman!
