# Crochet Elf Apron Free Pattern

Crochet elf apron

Okay, this might be my favorite of the whole bunch — turn your little one into Santa’s cutest helper with this crochet elf apron! The red and green combo, the little black belt with its buckle, and those handy pockets (perfect for sneaking cookie samples) make it an absolute winner for Christmas baking day.

Like its apron siblings, it’s worked from the bottom up in simple single crochet with easy shaping decreases. The pockets and buckle are the cutest little add-ons, and you could honestly steal them for the other apron designs too. Let’s make an elf!

What You’ll Need

  • Bernat Super Value yarn in Lush Green, Berry Red, and Black (one skein of each), plus a bit of Gray for the buckle
  • Size H crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • 2 black buttons (optional)

Finished size:

  • Approximately 17 inches wide and 17 inches tall (not including the neck strap) — made to fit children, but easy to enlarge

Apron Top

Count 57 stitches in from the apron tie; in the next stitch join green yarn and chain 1.

Row 46: SC along 26 stitches (leave remaining stitches unworked), chain 1, turn.

Rows 47-60: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn.

Fasten off green yarn and join in red for the last 3 rows.

Rows 61-63: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Neck Strap

With red yarn, chain 51, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain. (50 SC)

Rows 2-3: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn. (50 SC)

Fasten off and use the loose ends to stitch the strap ends to the top edges of the apron. (Tip: if you make your starting chain fairly tight, it will naturally curve!)

Belt Buckle

With gray yarn:

Magic ring, chain 1 and make 4 SC, SC + chain 2 + SC in next (this makes a corner), 4 SC, SC + chain 2 + SC, 4 SC, SC + chain 2 + SC, 4 SC, SC + chain 2 + SC, join — don’t pull tight, so it leaves an opening.

Sew the buckle onto the middle strap.

Pockets (make 2)

With red yarn:

Chain 11, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn. (10 SC)

Rows 2-9: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn.

Fasten off leaving a long tail, and sew 3 sides of the pocket onto the bottom of the apron — leave the top open!

Sophie’s Tips

  • I made this to fit children, but it’s easy to make taller (add rows) or wider (add chains to the starting chain) for older elves.
  • The pocket pattern is a great little bonus — feel free to add pockets to any of the other aprons in the series!
  • Keep the tension even through all that single crochet and your edges will stay beautifully straight.

Happy holiday baking, little elf — Santa’s workshop has nothing on your kitchen!
