Rainbow Sprinkle Donut Turtle Free Crochet Pattern

Donut turtle amigurumi with pink frosting and sprinkles

# Rainbow Sprinkle Donut Turtle Free Crochet Pattern

If the Oreo turtle is the sophisticated one, this is its party-animal sibling. A donut turtle! Tan donut shell, pink frosting with a wavy edge, and rainbow sprinkles scattered all over. I showed this to my neighbor’s kid and she gasped so loud I thought she’d invented a new sound.

The construction is pure beginner amigurumi — a squat round shell, a flat frosting circle with a scalloped edge, and the usual head, flippers, and tail. The sprinkles are just little straight stitches in scrap yarn, and honestly they’re the most fun five minutes of the whole project. Pick your frosting color and go wild.

Donut Base (tan)

Round 1: Magic ring, 6 sc into the ring. (6 sts)

Round 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)

Round 3: *Sc 1, inc* repeat around. (18 sts)

Round 4: *Sc 2, inc* repeat around. (24 sts)

Round 5: *Sc 3, inc* repeat around. (30 sts)

Round 6: *Sc 4, inc* repeat around. (36 sts)

Rounds 7–8: Sc in each st around. (36 sts)

Round 9: *Sc 4, invdec* repeat around. (30 sts)

Round 10: Sc in each st around. (30 sts)

Stuff firmly with fiberfill, fasten off, and close the opening with a yarn needle. You should have a nice squat dome — the donut itself.

Frosting (pink)

Round 1: Magic ring, 6 sc into the ring. (6 sts)

Round 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)

Round 3: *Sc 1, inc* repeat around. (18 sts)

Round 4: *Sc 2, inc* repeat around. (24 sts)

Round 5: *Sc 2, inc* repeat around. (32 sts)

Round 6 (wavy edge): *Sc in next st, skip 1 st, 5 dc in next st, skip 1 st* — repeat 8 times around. (8 scallops)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Center the frosting on top of the tan dome and whipstitch it down around the wavy edge, leaving the tan rim peeking out like a real donut.

Sprinkles

Thread a yarn needle with a rainbow scrap and sew little 2-stitch straight lines scattered across the pink frosting — about 15 to 20 sprinkles. Knot and bury the ends inside the frosting. This is the best part, I swear.

Head (mint green)

Round 1: Magic ring, 6 sc into the ring. (6 sts)

Round 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)

Round 3: *Sc 1, inc* repeat around. (18 sts)

Rounds 4–5: Sc in each st around. (18 sts)

Attach the safety eyes between Rounds 4 and 5, about 6 stitches apart.

Round 6: *Sc 1, invdec* repeat around. (12 sts)

Round 7: Sc in each st around. (12 sts)

Stuff firmly, then

Round 8: invdec around. (6 sts) Close, fasten off, leaving a tail to sew the head to the front of the shell.

Flippers (make 4, mint green)

Round 1: Magic ring, 6 sc into the ring. (6 sts)

Round 2: *Sc 2, inc* repeat around. (8 sts)

Rounds 3–4: Sc in each st around. (8 sts)

Flatten the opening and fasten off with a tail for sewing. Sew two flippers to the front sides and two to the back sides of the shell.

Tail (mint green)

Round 1: Magic ring, 6 sc into the ring. (6 sts)

Rounds 2–3: Sc in each st around. (6 sts)

Fasten off and sew to the back of the shell between the rear flippers.

Sophie’s Tips

  • Chocolate frosting with rainbow sprinkles, mint frosting with chocolate sprinkles — this turtle is a whole donut shop waiting to happen.
  • Keep the sprinkle stitches short and snug so little fingers can’t catch them.
  • If the frosting edge curls, give it a quick steam with your iron (don’t touch the iron to the yarn!) and it will lie flat.

Go make the sweetest turtle on the block!
