Sunset Ombre Jellyfish Trio Free Crochet Pattern

Sunset ombre jellyfish trio

# Sunset Ombre Jellyfish Trio Free Crochet Pattern

These little jellyfish make me ridiculously happy. Three squishy amigurumi jellyfish in sunset ombre — coral, peach, and golden yellow — with the curliest tentacles. They take about an hour each, use almost no yarn, and kids are obsessed with them. Mine live on my desk and I fidget with the tentacles during phone calls.

The dome is a simple sphere, the tentacles are chains with extra stitches worked into them (that’s what makes them curl), and the ombre comes from changing colors as you go. No sewing except weaving in ends!

Jellyfish on bookshelf

I made the trio in coral, peach, and golden yellow — a whole sunset on my shelf. Each one uses less than 50 yards, so it’s the perfect stash-buster.

What You’ll Need

  • Worsted-weight acrylic yarn in coral, peach, and golden yellow (approx. 50 yards each)
  • Size G-6 (4.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Polyester fiberfill
  • Safety eyes (9mm) or black yarn for embroidered eyes
  • Tapestry needle

Finished size:

  • Approximately 4 inches tall (dome), tentacles about 5 inches long

The Pattern

Dome (make 1 per jellyfish)

With your main color, make a magic ring.

Round 1: 6 SC into the ring. (6 SC)

Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around. (12 SC)

Round 3: *SC in the next stitch, 2 SC in the next stitch,* repeat around. (18 SC)

Round 4: *SC in the next 2 stitches, 2 SC in the next stitch,* repeat around. (24 SC)

Rounds 5–8: SC in each stitch around. (24 SC)

Round 9: *SC in the next 2 stitches, SC2tog,* repeat around. (18 SC)

Insert safety eyes between Rounds 6 and 7, about 6 stitches apart. Stuff the dome firmly.

Round 10: *SC in the next stitch, SC2tog,* repeat around. (12 SC)

Round 11: SC2tog around. (6 SC)

Fasten off, closing the hole. Embroider a tiny smile if you like.

Tentacles

For the ombre effect, work the tentacles in the next lighter shade than the dome (coral dome → peach tentacles, and so on).

Join yarn in any stitch of Round 11’s edge. *Ch 25, work 2 SC in each chain back down (this makes it curl!), slip stitch in the next edge stitch,* repeat 8 times around. Fasten off.

Make 3 jellyfish: coral dome with peach tentacles, peach dome with yellow tentacles, and golden yellow dome with cream tentacles.

Weave in all ends.

Sophie’s Tips

  • The 2-SC-per-chain trick is the whole secret to curly tentacles — don’t skip stitches or they’ll hang straight.
  • Stuff the dome firmly before closing; a floppy jellyfish is a sad jellyfish.
  • Hang them from a branch with fishing line for the cutest mobile ever.

Squishy, curly, and pure joy — make the whole trio!
