Every baby deserves a little magic, and this poncho delivers it in the softest way. Worked top-down in one piece with the prettiest scalloped pixie edge, it slips over the head in seconds — no buttons, no fuss, just cozy. The gentle corner increases give it that classic poncho drape, and the little flower at the neck is the fairy-dust finishing touch.
I made mine in the dreamiest lilac and white, but picture it in blush pink, mint, or soft yellow — every pastel works here. It layers beautifully over long sleeves for chilly days and looks adorable over a simple onesie.

What You’ll Need
- DK-weight yarn: approx. 320 yards in Lilac and 80 yards in White (I used a soft acrylic blend)
- Size G-6 (4.0 mm) crochet hook
- Small amount of yellow yarn for the flower center
- Tapestry needle and scissors
Finished size: 6–12 months — neck opening 16 inches, length 10 inches from neck to point. To make it bigger, simply keep working increase rounds until it’s the length you want.
The Pattern
Gauge: 15 dc and 8 rounds = 4 inches.

Chain 76. Join with a slip stitch to form a ring, being careful not to twist.
Round 1: Chain 3 (counts as dc), dc in each chain around, join with a slip stitch to top of chain-3. (76 dc)
Round 2 (corner round): Chain 3, dc in next 17 sts, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next st (corner made), dc in next 18 sts, corner in next st — repeat from * two more times, dc in last st to complete the final 18-st section, join. (88 sts)
Rounds 3–9: Chain 3, dc in each st around, working (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each chain-2 corner space, join. Each round adds 12 stitches: Round 3 = 100, Round 4 = 112, Round 5 = 124, Round 6 = 136, Round 7 = 148, Round 8 = 160, Round 9 = 172.
Round 10 (scalloped pixie edge): Join White. Chain 1, sc in first st, skip next 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, skip next 2 sts, sc in next st around, join with a slip stitch. Fasten off and weave in ends. (43 scallops)
Neckline
Join Lilac with a slip stitch at the back of the neck opening.
Round 1: Chain 1, sc in each stitch around, join. (76 sc)
Round 2: Chain 1, sc in each st around, join. Fasten off. (76 sc)
Drawstring: With White, chain 120. Weave the chain in and out of the stitches of Neckline Round 1, tie in a bow at the front, and trim the ends.
Fairy Flower
With White, make a magic ring. (Chain 2, 2 dc, chain 2, slip stitch into the ring) five times — 5 petals. Join and fasten off. With Yellow, embroider a French knot (or sew a small yellow button) in the center. Sew the flower to the front of the poncho just below the drawstring.
Sophie’s Tips
- The corner chain-2 spaces are your landmarks — if you lose count, just find the four corners and you’ll know exactly where you are.
- Try the poncho on your little model (or a doll of similar size) after Round 6. Ponchos are forgiving, but a quick check keeps the length just right.
- Weave the drawstring loosely — it should gather the neckline gently, never cinch it tight.
A little everyday magic, handmade with love. That’s what it’s all about!
